Popular Summer Makeup Trends

I'm talking about the things that are so in this season, and more than just the standards like "big lashes" (I saw one beauty report report this and I'm sorry, but isn't big bold lashes ALWAYS in ;) It's why we feel naked without mascara!)

Colour Wise:

  • Corals (It's such a go-to summer color and there are so many pretty eyes/blushes/lips coming out this summer. Sources: MAC Cosmetics To-The-Beach has a couple cute looks (released May 27, 2010), NYX has some cute ones, and I like Maybelline's Dream Matte Mouse Blush)
  • Purples (Like lilacs, this is mainly because of Alice in Wonderland, and lilacs are totally doable for day looks but then you can go darker for night time. Sources: NYX, Urban Decay, Micabella, MAC Cosmetics)
  • Yellows (I'm seeing a lot of yellow looks this season, it's a great way to brighten up your eyes on the inner lid! Sources: Annabelle, NYX Pearl Mania Pigments)
  • Coppers (As a middle, outer lid color, crease or eye liner or a fun (doable) lip! NYX Pearl Mania)
EYES:
  • I'm seeing a lot less smokey eye, and a lot more fun combinations with fading on the lid!
  • Metallics (Looks or just eye liner, I'm in love with golds, coppers, and bronzes)
LIPS:
  • The one look I'm seeing consistently is a lot of pale pinks (like MAC's Viva Glam Gaga)
  • Fierce reds (look for Tom Ford's new line to satisfy your needs.)

Annabelle Eye Shadow Pans

Annabelle Cosmetics is one of those brands that I think is only Canadian. It can be found at: Wal Mart, London Drugs, and some Pharmasaves. Here are some advantages to it:
  1. Highly Pigmented (I have them in a MAC 15 palette and I honestly can't tell a difference in quality beside a similar MAC color)
  2. They fit in MAC palettes! (It's perfect, since I love the 15 palettes (I need more than a quad!))
  3. Good staying power (I haven't tried them without a base, but with UDPP, Paint Pots, Shadesticks, Jumbo, etc. etc. they last.)
  4. Price!!!! (duh! They're 3.36 a piece at walmart, that's almost $10 less than MAC!)
  5. Their quad palettes are more sturdy than MAC.
Now the disadvantages...
  1. They're not sold everywhere.
  2. They only have 16 colors (you could buy the entire collection for less than $55)
  3. No 15 palette :( only quads. I guess that's because of their limited collection
Your choice: They have fun designs (It's more fun to look at, but MAC ones are more streamlined)

Favorite Drugstores for Makeup

These are some of my favorite sources for drugstore makeup:
  1. London Drugs (advantage: prices, they seem to always have awesome sales, there's a lot of them around)
  2. Wal-Mart (I know, I know: but advantage: prices. disadvantage: there's usually only 1 in a city so unless you live right by it, you better be going for other things..)
  3. Pharmasave (it can be expensive but then they can also have really good sales.)
  4. Shopper's Drug Mart (Their sales aren't amazing, and I'm not usually impressed with the selection.)

What's your favorites?

What it means to be Canadian

There are a lot of benefits to being Canadian if beauty is your game (or your hobby).
1) MAC Cosmetics is Canadian
2) We have a couple exclusive brands.
3) We live in a BEAUTIFUL country with every season (we get winter!)

But there are also some downsides..
1) We don't have target, walgreens, etc. and until recently, didn't really have a lot of Sephora (we still don't)
2) Sephora's online prices are inconvenient (they're in American)
3) Shipping gets ridiculously expensive to get it across the border.

SO. This blog is here to be a consumer's guide to Canadian Beauty. I'm not going to talk about things that you can only order online from the US and then will have to pay through the teeth in shipping.
